Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how FlyingOver works. For account and billing help, see the Help Center.

Tracking a flight

What is FlyingOver?

FlyingOver is a flight tracker and travel companion for iPhone and Android. It follows your flight on an offline map, shows flight status and gate changes, helps with connections and keeps every trip in your FlightBook.

Can I track my flight without Wi-Fi or internet?

Yes. Add your flight before takeoff while you're connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. FlyingOver saves the route and the map, so you can follow the flight without in-flight internet.

Can I use FlyingOver in airplane mode?

Yes. Once the flight is added, the map and the trip details work with your phone in airplane mode. How it works.

Does FlyingOver use GPS or my location?

No. FlyingOver doesn't use GPS and never asks for location access. It combines several data sources, such as airline and airport data, weather, on-time statistics and historical averages, to estimate where your plane is, usually with a high degree of accuracy, even in airplane mode.

How accurate is the position during the flight?

Very close, most of the time. FlyingOver uses airline and airport data, weather, on-time statistics and historical averages in real time to estimate your position. Like any estimate it can differ for a while, for example if the flight holds before landing, and it updates as soon as you're online.

Does FlyingOver show what I'm flying over?

Yes. The map labels the cities, coastlines, lakes, mountains and borders along your route. What am I flying over?

Does it work on international and long-haul flights?

Yes. FlyingOver covers 400+ airlines worldwide, on domestic and international routes, including long-haul flights where Wi-Fi is expensive or missing.

Status and alerts

Does FlyingOver show gate, terminal and delay updates?

Yes, with Premium. You see gate, terminal and delay details when the data is available, and you can get push alerts when they change. Scheduled and estimated times are free.

Can FlyingOver help with connecting flights?

Yes. A connection card follows a multi-leg trip and shows whether the layover looks comfortable or tight. Is your layover long enough?

Does FlyingOver have a Live Activity on iPhone?

Yes, with Premium. Your flight shows on the Lock Screen while it's under way.

FlightBook

What is FlightBook?

Your flight log inside FlyingOver: a globe of every flight you've taken, with distance, hours, countries and aircraft. More about FlightBook.

Is FlightBook free?

No. FlightBook, its stats and its share cards come with Premium. Tracking a flight, the offline map and the share stickers stay free.

Can I add flights I took before using FlyingOver?

Yes. Add them by flight number and date, or import a CSV file using the template in the app.

What is the year in review?

From December 1 to January 31, FlightBook shows a card with your year in flights: distance, hours, countries and top routes, ready to share.

Stickers and sharing

What are the share stickers?

Two die-cut stickers for each flight, a boarding pass and a bag tag, with your airports, date and seat. You can paste them into a story or chat, or share them as a full story image.

Do the stickers show my booking number?

No. Stickers can show your seat; the booking number stays in the app.

Premium, languages and privacy

Is FlyingOver free?

Yes. Tracking a flight, the offline map and the share stickers are free. Premium is an optional subscription that adds FlightBook, gate, terminal and delay details, push alerts, the Live Activity and more upcoming flights.

How many upcoming flights can I save for free?

One, up to 7 days ahead. Premium removes the limit.

Which languages does FlyingOver support?

The app is available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian, Indonesian and Malay.

Can I use miles instead of kilometres?

Yes. Pick kilometres or miles in Settings. In the US the default is miles.

Where is my data stored?

Your flights are saved on your phone and in your account. Your booking number and seat never go to analytics. See the privacy policy.

On which devices is FlyingOver available?

On iPhone and iPad from the App Store, and on Android phones from Google Play.
